Rana Sugars Limited announced its Q1 FY26 unaudited financial results, with revenue from operations rising to ₹53,090.41 lakhs from ₹46,203.92 lakhs in the same quarter last year, a growth of about 15%. However, the company slipped into a loss with a profit after tax of ₹(253.18) lakhs, compared to a profit of ₹189.90 lakhs in Q1 FY25. The profit before tax also turned negative at ₹(393.90) lakhs versus a positive ₹290.67 lakhs earlier, mainly because total expenses grew faster (~17%) than revenue. At the segment level, the Sugar business reported a loss of ₹(1,841.25) lakhs (worse than ₹364.72 lakhs loss a year ago), while Power and Distillery remained profitable. The statutory auditor issued a clean limited review report with no qualifications.
Despite higher revenue, shareholders should note the company swung to a loss in Q1, with EPS turning negative at ₹(0.16). The seasonal nature of the sugar business means this quarter alone is not fully representative of annual performance, but cost pressure is clearly weighing on margins and could concern investors in the near term.
