RBI in wait-and-watch mode, no certainty on rate hike: Governor Sanjay Malhotra

RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said the central bank is in a wait-and-watch mode with no certainty on a rate hike, citing elevated global and monsoon uncertainties. The RBI kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25 percent with a neutral stance at the June 5 MPC meeting, while revising inflation forecast upward to 5.1 percent for 2026-27 from 4.6 percent and trimming growth forecast to 6.6 percent from 6.9 percent. Retail inflation stood at 3.93 percent in May, below the medium-term target of 4 percent.
