Reliance Industries' subsidiary Jio Platforms surged into the global top 20 in the WIPO Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) rankings for 2025, jumping 320 places — one of the fastest rises globally. It is the only Indian technology innovator to break into the top 20, sitting alongside names like Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm, and Apple. As of March 31, 2026, Jio has cumulatively filed 6,817 patents (2,393 in India and 4,424 abroad), with 1,009 grants worldwide (538 in India, 471 internationally). The patent portfolio is heavily focused on next-generation technologies including 5G, 6G, AI, AI-native networks, cloud-native platforms, edge intelligence, and satellite communications. Akash M. Ambani, MD of Jio Platforms, dedicated the achievement to PM Modi's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, positioning Jio as a contributor to India's deep-tech growth story.
Positive long-term signal for Reliance shareholders — reinforces Jio Platforms' transition from a telecom operator to a deep-tech IP creator, which could support future revenue diversification and global competitiveness. Short-term stock impact is likely limited as this is a brand/reputation milestone rather than a financial event.
