Reliance Infrastructure's promoted company, Reliance Defence Limited, has won a significant export order worth INR 600 crore from Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH, one of the world's largest defence manufacturers headquartered in Germany. This is described as one of the largest contracts to date in the high-tech ammunition domain and strengthens the recently announced strategic partnership between the two companies. Rheinmetall has a market capitalisation of around EUR 80 billion (~INR 7.99 lakh crore) and reported EUR 9.8 billion in annual revenue for 2024. Reliance Defence plans to build the Dhirubhai Ambani Defence City (DADC) in Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, claimed to be the largest greenfield defence project by any private company in India, covering explosives, ammunition, and small arms manufacturing. Reliance Group highlighted that Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power are debt-free, with net worth and turnover of INR 33,000 crore each, and a combined market cap of around INR 45,000 crore.
This is a positive development for Reliance Infrastructure shareholders as it validates the strategic direction of its defence business and brings in a marquee international partner, which could improve sentiment around the stock. Execution of the export order and progress on the DADC project in Ratnagiri will be key things to watch for future revenue contribution.
