Samhi Hotels' board has approved investing INR 125 Crore in its wholly owned subsidiary Ascent Hotels Private Limited by subscribing to equity shares on a rights issue basis. The funds will be used by Ascent towards repayment of inter-corporate loans and to meet a pre-closing condition for selling a 35% stake in three of Samhi's subsidiaries (Ascent, SAMHI JV Business Hotels, and Innmar Tourism) to Reco Bellflower Private Limited, an affiliate of GIC Pte. Limited (Singapore's sovereign wealth fund). Ascent will remain 100% owned by Samhi after this infusion, and the transaction is expected to be completed on or before 23 May 2025. Ascent reported a turnover of INR 140.04 Crore in FY25, up from INR 118.49 Crore in FY24 and INR 94.12 Crore in FY23.
This is a preparatory step toward a major deal with a marquee global investor (GIC), which should strengthen Samhi's balance sheet and unlock value from its hotel assets. Shareholders may view this positively as it paves the way for partial monetization of subsidiaries with a reputed long-term investor, though the cash being infused is significant.
