Samvardhana Motherson International has incorporated a new subsidiary called Motherson Sanko Sustainable Packaging Products Limited (MSSPPL) on May 15, 2025, through its wholly-owned arm Samvardhana Motherson Global Carriers Limited (SMGCL). This follows a Joint Venture Agreement signed on February 7, 2025, with Japan's Sanko Co. Ltd. MSSPPL will manufacture and sell plastic packaging materials and moulded products such as pallets, crates, and containers. Initially, 100% of the new entity will be held by SMGCL, but the final ownership will be split 51% (SMGCL) and 49% (Sanko). The initial cost of incorporation is just INR 5 lakh, as it is a newly formed company with no turnover yet.
This expands Motherson's footprint into sustainable packaging solutions through a partnership with a Japanese firm, adding a new business vertical beyond its core auto components. It is unlikely to move the stock materially in the short term, but signals continued diversification by the group.
