Sandur Manganese & Iron Ores Limited's Kammatharu Iron Ore Mine in Sandur Taluk, Ballari District (spread over 1,860.10 hectares) has been awarded the prestigious Seven Star Rating by the Ministry of Mines / Indian Bureau of Mines for performance year 2023-24. The award was presented on 7 July 2025 at Jaipur by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Rajasthan in the presence of the Union Minister of Coal and Mines. The mine was the only one from South India, and one of just three mines in the country, to receive the Seven Star rating. It also received the Five Star Rating for the 10th consecutive year since the Star Rating award scheme began. The recognition highlights best practices in Green Mining and Sustainable Development.
