Sapphire Foods, the franchisee operator for KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell in India, released its Q4 FY26 corporate presentation. The company operates 1,052 restaurants across India, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. Q4FY26 restaurant sales grew 11% YoY to ₹7,898 MN, but EBITDA margin contracted 20 bps to 15.8%. For full year FY26, EBITDA margin declined 170 bps to 15.4% with EBITDA at ₹4,804 MN (down 2% YoY). KFC restaurant EBITDA declined to 16.3% from 19.4% in FY25, while Pizza Hut restaurant EBITDA turned negative at -3.3% (from 2.4% in FY25) due to declining average daily sales per restaurant. The company has implemented zero-based cost budgeting and restaurant size optimization initiatives. A merger with Devyani International was approved in January 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
Margin pressure is evident across both brands, particularly Pizza Hut turning EBITDA negative. The declining restaurant-level profitability despite sales growth indicates operational challenges and cost pressures that could weigh on the stock.
