SBI Life Insurance filed the transcript of its Q1 FY26 earnings call held on July 24, 2025. The company reported a 14% rise in profit after tax to INR5.94 billion and a 14% growth in gross written premium to INR178.14 billion. New business premium stood at INR72.7 billion with a 21.3% private market share. Value of new business grew 12% to INR10.9 billion, with VoNB margin improving 62 basis points to 27.4%. The protection segment grew 53% on APE basis and now contributes 11.7% of total APE. The 13th month persistency improved 58 bps to 87.12%, and 61st month persistency rose sharply by 501 bps to 62.8%. AUM grew 15% to INR4.76 trillion, and the solvency ratio stood comfortably at 1.96. Management reaffirmed mid-teens growth guidance for FY26 and maintained the 26-28% VoNB margin range with a 'positive bias'.
Strong Q1 results with healthy margin expansion, robust APE growth, and improved persistency ratios reinforce SBI Life's leadership among private insurers. The positive bias on margin guidance and continued momentum in protection and non-par products are constructive signals for shareholders, though a slight uptick in opex ratio to 6.3% reflects ongoing investment in branch and agency expansion.
