Shree Rama Newsprint has redeemed the first instalment of Zero Coupon Debentures (ZCDs) originally issued to Bank of India and Punjab National Bank. The company paid Rs. 7.875 crore to Bank of India (78,750 debentures) and Rs. 6.25 crore to PNB (62,500 debentures), totalling Rs. 14.125 crore. This redemption is the first of three equal annual instalments under a Joint Lender Forum (JLF) approved restructuring plan, starting at the end of the 10th year from issuance. Each ZCD had a face value of Rs. 1,000 and carried no coupon.
This is a scheduled, pre-agreed debt repayment under a past restructuring, not a new development in financial stress. For shareholders, it signals the company is meeting obligations under the JLF plan, which is a mildly positive sign of stability, but the underlying debt and restructuring history remain in place.
