Sky Gold & Diamonds, a B2B jewellery manufacturer, is changing its expansion strategy. Instead of building a large greenfield factory on land it had purchased for around INR 105 crore (which would have quadrupled capacity), the company will now sell that land and expand through leased manufacturing facilities instead. The land sale is targeted to close within six months, and the promoter family has committed to buying the land themselves if no buyer is found in that time. The company expects proceeds from the land sale plus improved operating cash flows in FY27 to cut borrowings by more than 20%, with greater use of Gold Metal Loans to further lower funding costs. Sky Gold reiterated its target of becoming net debt-free by FY30.
Short-term, the stock could react positively as the move signals better capital discipline and faster deleveraging. For shareholders, the shift trades upfront fixed-asset investment for a more flexible, asset-light model, which may improve return ratios and reduce execution risk.
