On August 1, 2025, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited (M&M) completed the acquisition of 85,33,053 equity shares (58.96%) in SML Isuzu from Sumitomo Corporation (43.96%) and Isuzu Motors (15%), making M&M the new promoter of the company. As a result, seven directors stepped down, including Managing Director & CEO Yasushi Nishikawa, four other Japanese nominee directors (Sumitomo and Isuzu representatives), and two Independent Directors (Atima Khanna and Sanjeev Mehan).
