Spandana Sphoorty has shared its Q1 FY26 investor presentation, reporting a sharp slowdown in business. AUM fell 27% quarter-on-quarter to ₹4,958 Cr, while disbursements dropped 88% year-on-year to just ₹280 Cr as the company stayed cautious on lending. The firm posted a consolidated loss of ₹360 Cr versus a profit of ₹56 Cr a year ago, with GNPA rising to 4.88% (from 2.60% YoY) and cost-to-income spiking to 139.1%. On the positive side, the ₹400 Cr rights issue closed successfully with full promoter and institutional participation, pushing CRAR to 40.8% (46% post-issue) and liquidity to ₹1,731 Cr. Management highlighted that ~50% of the existing and dormant customer base (~20 lakh customers) is eligible for fresh loans under stricter credit rules, with 96% currently in good standing.
The weak quarterly results with a large loss, asset quality deterioration, and sharply lower disbursements are likely to weigh on the stock in the short term. However, the successful rights issue, strong capital position, and management's focus on rebuilding quality of book provide a cushion for recovery once disbursements normalize.
