SpiceJet has signed an interline agreement with Gulf Air, the national carrier of Bahrain. This will allow SpiceJet passengers to book connecting flights to the Middle East, Africa, Europe and Central Asia via Bahrain, while Gulf Air customers will get easier access to SpiceJet's domestic Indian network. Gulf Air currently operates direct flights to 8 Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram. Under an interline arrangement, passengers can book connecting flights across both airlines on a single ticket. Ticket sales under this new agreement are expected to start by early next year. The partnership aims to strengthen connectivity between India and Bahrain and beyond.
This is a modest positive development as it expands SpiceJet's international reach without the cost of adding new routes or aircraft. However, interline agreements are lighter in commitment than full code-shares, and revenue benefits are unlikely to be material.
