SAIL has appointed Shri Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra as Director In-charge of Bhilai Steel Plant with effect from July 15, 2025, following a Government of India nomination dated July 14, 2025 and Board approval. Shri Mohapatra is a long-serving internal executive who joined SAIL as a Management Trainee in 1989 at Rourkela Steel Plant and has over three decades of experience across plant operations, materials management, and projects. Most recently, he served as Executive Director (Works) and Head of Works at Bokaro Steel Plant, where production and profitability improved during his tenure. He has also held board positions at BPSCL.
This is an internal leadership rotation within a public sector unit and is unlikely to materially affect SAIL's stock price. Shareholders may view the appointment positively given Mohapatra's long track record and the improvements seen at Bokaro under his watch, which he may now replicate at Bhilai, SAIL's largest plant.
