SAIL reported Q1 FY'26 turnover of Rs. 25,731 crore, up from Rs. 23,764 crore in Q1 FY'25. EBITDA stood at Rs. 2,925 crore (margin of 11.20%), with PAT of Rs. 685 crore versus a meagre Rs. 11 crore in Q1 FY'25 (which had exceptional charges of Rs. 312 crore). Crude steel production was 4.854 MT and total sales were 4.55 MT, with domestic sales dominating at 4.426 MT and exports at 0.124 MT. On a sequential basis, performance was lower than Q4 FY'25 (EBITDA Rs. 3,781 crore, PAT Rs. 1,178 crore), reflecting typical seasonal weakness. The balance sheet remains healthy with debt of Rs. 36,276 crore, debt-to-equity of 0.64, DSCR of 2.74, and net worth of Rs. 56,862 crore.
Results are broadly in line with expectations, showing year-on-year recovery in profitability but a quarter-on-quarter dip from peak Q4 levels. The healthy debt metrics and improving borrowings (down to Rs. 28,741 crore from Rs. 35,350 crore in Mar'21) provide comfort, though no specific forward guidance on margins or capacity expansion was given in the presentation.
