Steel Strips Wheels Limited (SSWL) has signed a Tripartite Agreement with Liuzhou Arays Technology Co. Ltd. and Hainan Jihoo Import & Export Co. Ltd., both Chinese firms, for setting up a new alloy wheel manufacturing facility at Bhuj, Gujarat. The facility will have a capacity of 1.2 million alloy wheels per annum. Arays will supply, install and commission the machinery and transfer technical know-how for the plant. The total consideration is approximately $19 million. The agreement is international in nature, not a related party transaction, and the share exchange/JV ratio is NIL, indicating this is a technology and equipment supply tie-up rather than an equity joint venture.
This is a positive capacity expansion move that gives SSWL access to Chinese alloy wheel technology and machinery, supporting its growth in the higher-value alloy wheel segment. For shareholders, it signals the company's push into a new product category but execution and capital deployment risks remain given the $19 million outlay.
