Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI), formerly Reliance Naval and Engineering, has won an order from Energy ONE Limited to build four 92,500 DWT ammonia dual-fuel bulk carriers — the first such vessels to be built in India. The ships will be 229.5m long with a 37m beam, designed by South Korea's KMS-EMEC and classed by DNV. The order falls in Category 4, placing its value in the Rs 1,501–3,000 crore range. The first vessel is scheduled for delivery in October 2029, with the remaining three following at four-month intervals. Buyer Energy ONE is the general partner for Jersey-based New Energy One (NEO), a fund with a USD 2 billion program to invest in zero-emission ships.
This is a landmark order that validates SDHI's green shipbuilding capabilities and adds a sizeable, multi-year revenue stream with deliveries starting late 2029. It is a positive catalyst for the stock, reflecting rising global confidence in Indian shipyards, though execution over a 3+ year horizon remains the key risk.
