Tamil Nadu Newsprint & Papers (TNPL) reported weak Q1 FY26 results with total revenue of ₹1,154.55 Cr (up marginally from ₹1,129.85 Cr YoY) but swung to a loss after tax of ₹7.41 Cr versus a profit of ₹21.91 Cr in the same quarter last year, mainly due to falling paper prices and higher raw material costs. EBITDA fell sharply to ₹113.92 Cr from ₹161.10 Cr YoY. The Board appointed Thiru Yogesh Gupta as Executive Director (Marketing – Paper & Board) effective July 7, 2025, and approved the re-appointment of Dr. N. Sundaradevan (retired IAS) as Independent Director for a second term (Sept 12, 2025 to Sept 1, 2027) via postal ballot. The 45th AGM was rescheduled to September 18, 2025, and the final dividend of ₹3 per share (80%) will be paid on or after that date, subject to shareholder approval. The Board also appointed M/s Sridharan & Sridharan Associates as Secretarial Auditor for five years and M/s Geeyes & Co as Cost Auditor for FY 2025-26.
The Q1 loss and sharp EBITDA decline signal near-term pressure on margins from weak paper realisations, which is negative for sentiment despite stable revenue. Director changes are routine governance and unlikely to move the stock on their own, while the dividend and AGM update are standard procedural items.
