Tata Elxsi reported Q1 FY26 operating revenue of INR 892.1 crores with EBITDA margin at 20.9% and PBT margin at 21.1%, calling the quarter challenging due to geopolitical uncertainty and tariff-related pressures. Transportation (over 50% of revenue) exited flat in constant currency, with large deals from Mercedes-Benz, a European OEM, and Suzuki ramping up. Media & Communications declined 5.5% QoQ and Healthcare declined 6.7% QoQ, both hit by transition costs on consolidation deals and tariff impacts on US customers. Management guided to gradual margin recovery over the next 3 quarters, targeting 29-30% EBITDA margins in the medium term, and expects both transportation and media to return to growth in Q2 FY26. Wage hikes are pushed to Q3, tax rate has normalized to about 26%, and Aerospace & Defense is being incubated with a target of about INR 50 crores revenue this year.
The call sets a cautiously optimistic tone for shareholders: management acknowledged Q1 weakness but confirmed deal ramp-ups are on track and committed to medium-term margin recovery to historical 29-30% levels, which could support earnings revision hopes. Near-term pressure on margins and revenue growth remains, but the strong order pipeline and OEM mix shift (now 72%+ from OEMs) provide visibility for a gradual recovery.
