Tata Motors reported total sales of 2,10,415 units in Q1 FY26, down from 2,29,891 units in Q1 FY25, a decline of about 8%. Commercial Vehicle sales fell 6% YoY to 85,606 units, with weakness in HCV trucks (-12%) and SCV cargo/pickup (-17%), though International Business CV volumes grew 67.9%. Passenger Vehicle sales dropped 10% YoY to 1,24,809 units, including 16,231 EVs (-2% YoY), with the refreshed Tiago posting 16% growth and new launches Altroz and Harrier.ev receiving positive response. Management attributed the slowdown to muted industry demand in May and June, but highlighted EV momentum, new launches, and international expansion (entry into Egypt) as positive.
Headline numbers are weaker than last year across both CV and PV segments, which may weigh on sentiment. However, EV traction, strong international growth, and upcoming contribution from new launches offer some offset for shareholders watching the stock.
