Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, reported Q1 FY26 wholesale volumes of 87,286 units, down 10.7% year-on-year and 21.7% versus the previous quarter. Retail sales came in at 94,420 units, down 15.1% year-on-year and 12.8% versus Q4 FY25. The company attributed the decline to the planned wind down of legacy Jaguar models ahead of the new electric Jaguar launch and a pause in US shipments during April 2025 following the introduction of US import tariffs. On the positive side, the share of higher-priced Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender models rose to 77.2% of total wholesale volumes, up from 66.3% in the prior quarter, reflecting a shift toward more profitable vehicles. Full financial results for Q1 FY26 are expected in August 2025.
Short-term volume weakness is already known and largely priced in, but the improving premium mix could support better margins and average selling prices. Investors should watch the August 2025 earnings for margin trends and any updates on US tariff impact and the new Jaguar EV launch timeline.
