Tata Power and Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) signed an amendment to their November 2024 MoU to add the 404 MW Nyera Amari I & II hydropower project to their existing collaboration. This expands their total identified hydropower capacity from 4,500 MW to 5,033 MW. The partnership aims to develop at least 4,500 MW of hydropower projects in Bhutan, supporting Bhutan's vision to reach 25,000 MW generation capacity by 2040. Work is already underway on Khorlochhu (600 MW) and Dorjilung (1,125 MW), which together represent about 35% of the committed 5 GW portfolio. The agreement was signed in presence of Bhutan's Prime Minister and represents the largest partnership between leading power companies of India and Bhutan. Tata Power also aims to jointly develop 500 MW of solar PV projects in Bhutan.
The expanded partnership reinforces Tata Power's position as a leading clean energy player in the region and provides long-term growth visibility through a significant pipeline of hydropower assets. This strategic collaboration with Bhutan supports regional energy security and strengthens India's access to clean power during peak demand periods.
