The Royal Government of Bhutan and the World Bank signed $515 million financing agreements for the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Power Project. Tata Power holds a 40% stake in Dorjilung Hydro Power Limited (DHPL), a Special Purpose Vehicle jointly owned with Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (60%). The $1.7 billion project will generate over 4,500 GWh of clean electricity annually, with nearly 80% supplied to India. The project is expected to increase Bhutan's GDP by 2.4% and displace 3.3 million tons of CO2 annually. The innovative public-private partnership structure minimizes sovereign borrowing while enabling Bhutan to earn about $4 billion in revenues over 30 years.
Tata Power's 40% stake in this project strengthens its clean energy portfolio and regional presence, with nearly 80% of power supply destined for India, supporting rising peak demand and energy security.
