Tata Power has executed a Supplementary Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with GUVNL (Gujarat) for its Mundra plant, where operations were temporarily suspended. Similar supplementary PPAs are set to be executed with the states of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana. The Mundra plant has faced long-standing issues around recovery of high imported coal costs under the original PPA, which did not have adequate pass-through provisions. The supplementary agreements are expected to help the plant recover costs and eventually resume operations. This development follows years of negotiations and represents progress toward resolving one of the company's most challenging power assets.
Positive for shareholders — the supplementary PPAs address the long-pending tariff and cost-recovery issue at the Mundra plant, clearing a path for operations to restart and improving the unit's financial viability.
