Tata Steel has filed its Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report for FY2024-25 as part of its 118th Integrated Annual Report, covering all nine NGRBC principles. Consolidated turnover stood at Rs 2,18,542.51 crore (down from Rs 2,29,170.78 crore in FY2023-24), while standalone turnover was Rs 1,32,516.66 crore (down from Rs 1,40,932.65 crore). The year was marked by major events including the commissioning of the 5 MTPA Kalinganagar Phase-2 expansion, closure of two legacy blast furnaces at Tata Steel UK, and the merger of three Indian subsidiaries (Angul Energy, Bhubaneshwar Power, and Indian Steel & Wire Products). The company reported 75,377 permanent and other-than-permanent employees and 1,97,585 workers on a consolidated basis, with women comprising 9.1% of permanent employees. Customer complaints fell to 16,021 (from 19,258) and community complaints to 4,841 (from 5,266), while employee complaints rose to 1,502 (from 1,033). The report was independently assured by Price Waterhouse & Co on a reasonable assurance basis for BRSR Core indicators (standalone).
The BRSR is largely a compliance disclosure, but it signals continued revenue softness alongside significant progress on Tata Steel's long-term growth and decarbonisation roadmap (Kalinganagar expansion, Ludhiana EAF, Net Zero 2045 target). Shareholders should note rising employee attrition (permanent employee turnover rose to 8.9% consolidated from 6.6%) and ongoing UK restructuring, which may pressure near-term costs but are part of the broader transition strategy.
