Techno Electric & Engineering Company Ltd has launched a wholly-owned subsidiary, Techno Digital Infra Pvt Ltd, targeting USD 1 billion in investment to build 250 MW of cumulative data center capacity across India. The first project is a 36 MW hyperscale data center in Chennai's SIPCOT IT Park, spanning about 2 lakh sq ft, capable of hosting 2,400 racks with a Rated-3 design, PUE of 1.35, renewable energy integration, and battery storage. Future hyperscale sites are planned in Kolkata and Noida. Separately, the company has partnered with RailTel (a Government of India enterprise) to develop 102 edge data centers across 23 states, targeting Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The Chennai facility will serve AI, OTT, BFSI, fintech, telecom, and e-governance workloads. TEECL is leveraging its four-decade EPC and power infrastructure expertise to enter the digital infrastructure space, aligned with the government's Digital India push.
This is a significant strategic diversification beyond TEECL's traditional power EPC business into the high-growth digital infrastructure sector, which could open a long-term recurring revenue stream. The USD 1 billion capex commitment is sizeable and may pressure near-term returns, but the RailTel partnership lends credibility and reduces go-to-market risk. Investors should track project commissioning timelines and any future fundraising or capex phasing announcements.
