Torrent Power, in partnership with Torrent Gas, inaugurated a Green Hydrogen Plant in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh on August 17, 2025, which was unveiled by Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath. The plant has an annual production capacity of 72 tonnes per annum (TPA) and will blend green hydrogen with natural gas at up to 2% concentration, supplied through Torrent Gas's existing city gas distribution network to 12,000+ households, 32 CNG stations, and 73 industrial/commercial customers. The project is claimed to be the first green hydrogen plant in Uttar Pradesh and the largest green hydrogen and natural gas blending project in India's CGD sector. Green hydrogen will be produced via electrolysis of water using renewable energy, supporting India's National Green Hydrogen Mission 2030.
This is a milestone greenfield commissioning that aligns Torrent Power with India's clean energy transition and gives it a first-mover advantage in the green hydrogen-CGD blending space. While the 72 TPA capacity is modest, the strategic positioning could create long-term value and open future scalability, though near-term financial impact on shareholders is likely minimal given the small project size.
