Triveni Turbine Limited has launched a new product called Industrial Heat Pumps & Chillers, unveiled as India's first CO₂-based high-temperature heat pump. The product can deliver heat up to 122°C and achieves a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 6, making it up to 3x more efficient than conventional electric heating. Developed in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, the product uses carbon dioxide (R-744) as a natural refrigerant with zero ozone depletion potential and negligible global warming impact. It has been fully engineered and made in India, targeting process industries such as pharmaceuticals, food and beverages, chemicals, textiles, distilleries, pulp & paper, and district heating. The heat pump was tested at Triveni's newly commissioned Heat Pump Test Centre in Bengaluru and meets full performance benchmarks.
This product launch expands Triveni Turbines' portfolio beyond steam turbines into the industrial HVAC space, positioning the company to benefit from the global shift away from fossil-fuel-based heating and the phasing out of high-GWP refrigerants under the Kigali Amendment. It could open new revenue streams in both domestic and international markets, though commercial uptake remains to be seen.
