Utkarsh Small Finance Bank reported a significant loss for FY26 with PAT at -₹1,151 crore vs profit of ₹24 crore in FY25, driven by elevated provisions (₹1,563 crore) for asset quality issues in the microfinance segment. Q4 FY26 alone saw a loss of ₹188 crore. The bank is undergoing a strategic shift from microfinance (JLG loans declined 37% YoY to ₹5,789 crore) to secured lending (now 51% of portfolio vs 43% previously). Gross NPA improved from 9.4% to 7.7% QoQ, and Net NPA fell from 4.8% to 3.3%. Total deposits grew marginally to ₹21,654 crore with CASA deposits up 10.6% YoY. CRAR remains healthy at 17.7%. The bank raised ₹950 crore via rights issue in November 2025.
The bank is navigating a difficult transition from microfinance to secured lending amid asset quality stress, resulting in substantial losses. However, improving NPA trends and the strategic shift toward secured loans signal potential recovery. The capital raise provides a buffer, but shareholders face near-term pressure until asset quality stabilizes and the new lending strategy gains traction.
