Utkarsh Small Finance Bank reported a sharp deterioration in Q1 FY26 (quarter ended June 30, 2025), posting a net loss of ₹239.48 crore versus a profit of ₹137.40 crore in the same quarter last year. Total income fell to ₹1,018.65 crore from ₹1,070.57 crore, while provisions and contingencies surged to ₹410.51 crore from ₹125.04 crore, driving the loss. Asset quality worsened significantly with Gross NPA rising to 11.42% of gross advances (from 2.78% YoY) and Net NPA jumping to 5.00% (from 0.26%). Return on Assets turned negative at -0.87%, though Capital Adequacy Ratio remained healthy at 19.64%. Separately, the bank appointed Dr. Sourabh Ghosh (ex-AU Small Finance Bank, with 25+ years of banking experience) as Head-Consumer Banking effective August 2, 2025.
The results are clearly negative — a swing to a large quarterly loss driven by sharply higher provisioning and a steep jump in NPAs signals serious stress in the loan book, which is likely to weigh on the stock. The senior management appointment is a neutral-to-mildly positive operational move but does not offset the weak earnings.
