GLAS Agency disclosed creation of encumbrance over 2,139,794,759 Vedanta shares (54.72% of equity capital) held through promoter group entity Vedanta Resources Ltd subsidiaries. This relates to a $1 billion facility agreement dated 15 July 2026 with Citigroup and Standard Chartered Bank as lenders. GLAS notes encumbrance already existed on the same shares, so before and after holdings remain unchanged. The agreement requires the VRL group to retain at least 50.1% ownership in Vedanta.
Large encumbrance on over half of promoter-held shares signals leveraged funding arrangement. Existing pledge is renewed but no change in actual share holdings.
