Vedanta's subsidiary Talwandi Sabo Power Limited (TSPL) received a direction from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to deposit Environmental Compensation of Rs. 33.03 crore. The penalty was imposed for allegedly failing to achieve the mandatory 5% blend of pellets or briquettes made of crop residue along with coal during FY 2024-25, in violation of Environment (Utilization of Crop Residue by Thermal Power Plant) Rules, 2023. The direction was received on April 1, 2026. TSPL plans to file an appeal before the appropriate forum to challenge this direction and expects a favourable outcome with no material financial impact.
While the penalty amount of Rs. 33 crore is significant, the company claims it expects no material financial impact as it intends to challenge the direction. However, an adverse outcome in the appeal could affect subsidiary financials and attract additional regulatory scrutiny on environmental compliance.
