Wockhardt reported Q2 FY26 revenue of Rs 782 crore, a slight dip from Rs 818 crore in Q2 FY25 but up from Rs 738 crore in Q1 FY26. The company swung to a profit before tax of Rs 91 crore, compared to a loss of Rs 109 crore in the previous quarter, helped by a 58% sequential jump in EBITDA to Rs 160 crore and EBITDA margins improving to 20.5%. Profit after tax stood at Rs 82 crore versus a loss of Rs 108 crore in Q1 FY26. Biotech operations grew 42% to Rs 154 crore, driven by emerging markets. On the pipeline side, the company filed its first-ever NDA with the US FDA for novel antibiotic ZAYNICH (WCK 5222), a landmark for an Indian pharma company. The Q1 FY26 results included a one-time exceptional charge of Rs 97 crore for goodwill impairment linked to Morton Grove Pharmaceuticals entering Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the US.
The sharp swing back to profitability, margin expansion, and a historic US FDA filing for ZAYNICH are strong positive signals for shareholders, though the H1 FY26 remains in the red due to the Q1 exceptional charge. Investors will likely watch for NDA approval progress and continued biotech growth as key catalysts.
