Zydus Lifesciences has signed a Licensing and Supply Agreement with Lupin to co-market its innovative Semaglutide Injection (15 mg/3 ml) with a reusable pen device in India. Zydus will sell the product under brand names SEMAGLYN™, MASHEMA™ and ALTERME™, while Lupin will market it under Semanext® and Livarise® with semi-exclusive rights. Lupin will pay Zydus upfront licensing fees and milestone payments tied to pre-defined targets. Semaglutide is a GLP-1 therapy used for adults with type 2 diabetes and for chronic weight management in obesity/overweight patients. The partnership combines Zydus's product development strengths with Lupin's extensive reach across the Indian market to expand access to advanced metabolic disorder treatments.
This deal gives Zydus a near-term revenue boost from upfront licensing fees and milestone payments, plus broader market penetration through Lupin's distribution network without building its own sales force for this product. For shareholders, it strengthens Zydus's position in the fast-growing GLP-1 segment (diabetes and obesity) in India, which is a high-demand therapeutic area globally.
