Bandhan Bank's board has approved the appointment of Mr. Debashish Mukherjee as an Independent Director for a three-year term, subject to approval from the Ministry of Finance. Mr. Mukherjee, a retired Executive Director of Canara Bank, brings over three decades of experience across public sector banks in credit, risk management, treasury, and international banking. His appointment will take effect only after the one-year cooling-off period required after his retirement from Canara Bank. Separately, the board has appointed Mr. Prakash E as the new Chief of Internal Vigilance on an interim basis from February 24, 2026, for up to six months. He takes over from Mr. P Ramaswamy, who is exiting the role with his last working day being February 23, 2026. Mr. Prakash brings around 25 years of experience, including prior stints at ICICI Bank's Financial Crime Prevention Group and Samsung's Global Forensic Audit team.
The appointments strengthen governance at Bandhan Bank with experienced banking and vigilance professionals, which should be viewed positively by shareholders. The interim nature of the CIV role and the pending regulatory approval for the Independent Director leave some near-term uncertainty, but no immediate red flags for the stock.
