Bank of India reported Q1 FY26 results with net profit rising 32% year-on-year to Rs.2,252 crores and operating profit up 9% to Rs.4,009 crores, supported by 10.37% growth in global business to Rs.15,06,000 crores. Global advances grew 12.02% YoY to Rs.6,72,000 crores while RAM (Retail, Agriculture, MSME) advances surged 16.69% YoY, now forming 58% of the domestic book. Asset quality improved sharply with Gross NPA falling 170 basis points to 2.92% and Net NPA at 0.75%, while slippage ratio held steady at 0.33%. However, ROA dipped to 0.82% from 0.98% in Q4 FY25 due to NIM pressure (global NIM at 2.55%) as deposit rate repricing is still pending. Management guided FY26 advances growth at 12-13%, ROA around 0.90%, credit cost at 0.70%, NIM in the 2.50-2.60% range, and expects margin recovery from Q3 as liability costs catch up with rate cuts.
The 32% net profit growth and 170 bps improvement in Gross NPA are positives that should support the stock, but near-term NIM compression remains a watchpoint. Management's clear roadmap for margin recovery from Q3 FY26, along with strong advances growth pipeline of Rs.80,000 crores, offers a constructive outlook for shareholders.
