Bank of India reported strong Q1 FY26 results with net profit rising 32% year-on-year to Rs. 2,252 crores, driven by a 9% growth in operating profit to Rs. 4,009 crores. Global business crossed Rs. 15 lakh crore, with advances up 12% and deposits up 9% year-on-year. Retail loans surged 20%, MSME 17%, and overseas advances 16%, showing balanced growth. Asset quality improved significantly, with gross NPA falling to 2.92% (down 170 bps) and net NPA at 0.75%, while provision coverage strengthened to 92.94%. The bank reported ROA of 0.82%, ROE of 13.55%, and a healthy capital adequacy ratio of 17.39%, though net interest margin declined to 2.55% from 3.07% a year ago.
The 32% jump in net profit and steady improvement in asset quality are positives for shareholders, but the 52 bps drop in NIM and contraction in CASA ratio signal pressure on core margins. Overall, the results are likely to be viewed favorably given the strong earnings growth and cleaner balance sheet.
