Equitas Small Finance Bank reported its unaudited results for Q1 FY26, swinging to a net loss of approximately ₹223.78 crore (EPS of -₹1.96) versus a profit of about ₹147.05 crore in Q1 FY25. Total income fell to roughly ₹1,709.86 crore from ₹1,889.42 crore a year ago, a YoY decline of around 9.5%. The loss was driven by a sharp jump in provisions and contingencies to ₹612.25 crore, including an extra ₹148.50 crore standard asset provision for stressed sectors and ₹144.70 crore of additional NPA provisions in microfinance, vehicle finance, and small business loans. Gross NPA ratio rose to 2.92% (from 2.73% YoY) and Net NPA to 0.98% (from 0.83%). The Capital Adequacy Ratio stayed healthy at 20.48% (Basel II), and the bank raised ₹500 crore via Tier II subordinated bonds on July 31, 2025, shortly after the quarter end. The joint statutory auditors issued an unmodified limited review report.
The sharp swing to a quarterly loss — driven by heavy, mostly incremental provisioning in MFI and small business loans — is negative for near-term sentiment and may pressure the stock. However, the strong capital adequacy, recent ₹500 crore capital raise, and the provisioning nature of the hit suggest the franchise remains fundamentally intact.
