HDFC Bank's Board, at its July 19, 2025 meeting, approved Q1 FY26 results showing a standalone net profit of Rs. 18,155 crore, up about 12% year-on-year, with stable asset quality (Gross NPA 1.40%, Net NPA 0.47%) and a strong capital adequacy ratio of 19.88%. The Board declared a Special Interim Dividend of Rs. 5 per equity share (500% on face value of Re. 1) for FY26, with record date July 25, 2025 and payment on August 11, 2025. It also approved a 1:1 bonus issue (one bonus share for every one held), with record date August 27, 2025, and an increase in authorised share capital from Rs. 1,190.61 crore to Rs. 2,000 crore, subject to postal ballot and regulatory approvals. Additionally, the Bank booked a one-time gain of Rs. 9,128 crore (standalone) from the HDB Financial Services IPO, where it sold part of its stake, reducing its holding from 94.32% to 74.19%.
Strong positive for shareholders who will receive both a special cash dividend and a 1:1 bonus issue, effectively doubling their share count. The stock price will adjust downward on the ex-bonus date (typically by around 50%), so short-term market reaction may appear negative, but total shareholder value is preserved and the bonus signals management's confidence in future growth. The healthy profit growth and stable NPAs reinforce the Bank's strong fundamental story.
