HDFC Bank reported Q1 FY26 standalone net profit of Rs. 18,155 crore, up about 12% from Rs. 16,175 crore in Q1 FY25, with total income of Rs. 99,200 crore and stable asset quality (Gross NPAs at 1.40%, Net NPAs at 0.47%). The board declared a special interim dividend of Rs. 5 per share (500% on face value of Re. 1) with a record date of July 25, 2025 and payment on August 11, 2025. The bank also approved a 1:1 bonus issue, meaning one free share for every one held, adding roughly 766.79 crore new shares out of the Securities Premium Account, with a record date of August 27, 2025 and credit expected by September 18, 2025. The bank also booked a one-time gain of about Rs. 9,128 crore (standalone) from selling part of its stake in HDB Financial Services during its IPO. Authorised share capital will be raised from Rs. 1,190.61 crore to Rs. 2,000 crore, subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals.
Shareholders benefit from a cash dividend plus a doubling of their share count via the 1:1 bonus, though the stock price will adjust lower in proportion to the bonus. The strong Q1 profit growth and one-time IPO gain underscore the bank's earnings strength, which is a positive signal for medium-term sentiment.
