HDFC Bank reported Q1 FY26 standalone net profit of Rs 18,155 crore, up 12.2% from Rs 16,175 crore in Q1 FY25, while total income rose 18.5% to Rs 99,200 crore. Basic EPS stood at Rs 23.71, and the bank maintained a strong Capital Adequacy Ratio of 19.88%. Asset quality remained stable with Gross NPAs at 1.40% and Net NPAs at 0.47%. The board declared a special interim dividend of Rs 5 per share (500%) with a record date of July 25, 2025, and approved a 1:1 bonus share issuance (approximately 766.79 crore bonus shares) funded from the Securities Premium Account, subject to shareholder approval via postal ballot. The bank also recorded a one-time pre-tax gain of Rs 9,128.40 crore (standalone) from the HDB Financial Services IPO offer-for-sale, and made a floating provision of Rs 9,000 crore during the quarter.
Strong quarterly performance combined with a generous special dividend and a 1:1 bonus issue is a clear positive for shareholders, boosting income and doubling their shareholding. The price will technically adjust downward on the ex-bonus date, but long-term investors benefit from increased liquidity and earnings participation.
