AI summary

The Government of India, acting through the Department of Financial Services under the Ministry of Finance, plans to sell up to 38.51 crore equity shares of Indian Overseas Bank through a stock exchange window mechanism. The floor price for the OFS has been fixed at INR 34 per share, on a face value of INR 10. The sale will be conducted in two phases: non-retail investors on December 17, 2025 (9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST), followed by retail investors on December 18, 2025 (9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST). This is part of the government's broader disinvestment initiative in public sector banks to reduce its stake.

Likely market impact

The OFS will increase the floating supply of IOB shares in the market, which may create short-term downward pressure on the stock price as the government offloads its holding. Retail investors get a chance to buy shares at or near the floor price of INR 34, while existing shareholders may see a gradual reduction in government ownership over time.
