IndusInd Bank's promoters — IndusInd International Holdings Limited (IIHL) and IndusInd Limited (IL) — have released the pledge on their shares in the bank. IIHL released the pledge on 3.17 crore shares (4.08% of total share capital) and IL released the pledge on 2.79 crore shares (3.59%), together covering about 7.67% of the bank's equity. Before this release, promoters held 11.75 crore shares (15.08% of capital) of which roughly 50.86% were encumbered; after the release, encumbered promoter shares stand at nil while total promoter holding remains unchanged at 15.08%. The original pledges were created in favour of Barclays Bank PLC and Deutsche Bank AG (London Branch) to secure loan facilities used for global business opportunities and top-up security.
This is a positive signal for shareholders — promoters have fully unpledged their stake in the bank, which removes the risk of forced share sales and reflects improved financial flexibility at the promoter level. The market may view this as a sign of easing leverage concerns around the bank's promoter group.
