JK Tyre's Board has approved a major capacity expansion at its Chennai Tyre Plant and Vikrant Tyre Plant. The company plans to add 210 lakh tyres per annum — representing a 24% increase over current installed capacity — by financial year 2029-30. The total investment outlay is Rs. 4,980 crore, to be funded through internal accruals and debt. The expansion covers both Truck & Bus Radial and Passenger Car Radial tyre categories. JK Tyre cited robust demand across all tyre categories in the Indian market as the driver for this expansion to maintain market presence.
This Rs. 4,980 crore capex is a substantial commitment and signals strong management confidence in sustained tyre demand. If successfully executed, it could boost revenues and market share significantly by 2030, though near-term earnings may be pressured by higher debt and ramp-up costs.
