LIC filed the transcript of its Q1 FY'26 earnings call held on August 7, 2025, the first under new CEO R. Doraiswamy. Total premium income grew 4.77% year-on-year to Rs.1,19,200 crore, with individual renewal premium up 6.58%. Profit after tax rose 5.02% to Rs.10,986 crore. Value of New Business (VNB) jumped 20.75% to Rs.1,944 crore, while VNB margin expanded by 150 basis points to 15.4%, driven by a shift toward higher-margin non-par products (now 30.34% of individual APE, up from 23.94%). Solvency ratio improved to 2.17 from 1.99, AUM grew 6.47% to Rs.57.05 lakh crore, and overall expense ratio dropped 140 basis points to 10.47%. Number of policies sold declined 14.75% YoY, though average ticket size rose 23% and bancassurance premium nearly doubled.
Margin expansion, improved solvency, and a clear product-mix shift toward higher-margin non-par products are positive for shareholders; however, the falling policy count, no specific dividend uplift guidance, and cautious stance on capital returns (awaiting risk-based solvency regime) may limit near-term re-rating.
