Shoppers Stop has invested Rs. 20 Crores in its wholly owned material subsidiary Global SS Beauty Brands Limited (GSSBL) by subscribing to 2,000 optionally convertible preference shares at Rs. 1 lakh each. This is the first tranche of a Rs. 50 Crores investment approved by the Board on April 29, 2025, taking total preference share investment in GSSBL to Rs. 75 Crores. GSSBL runs the beauty products distribution and specialty beauty stores business, with FY24-25 turnover of Rs. 220 Crores — more than doubling from Rs. 96 Crores in FY23-24. The funds will be used for GSSBL's expansion plans and working capital needs. GSSBL remains 100% owned by Shoppers Stop after this investment.
This is a capital infusion into Shoppers Stop's fast-growing beauty subsidiary, signaling management's confidence in scaling the beauty retail vertical. For shareholders, it means continued investment in the high-growth beauty segment, but the cash outflow of Rs. 20 Crores may marginally impact short-term liquidity without adding new revenue at the consolidated level since GSSBL is already a wholly owned subsidiary.
