CARE Ratings has upgraded Shriram Finance's long-term instruments and non-convertible debentures from CARE AA+; Stable to CARE AAA; Stable, reaffirmed the commercial paper rating at CARE A1+, and assigned a new CARE AAA; Stable rating to its fixed deposit programme. The upgrade reflects SFL's leadership in used commercial vehicle financing, strong franchise diversification post the merger with Shriram City Union Finance, comfortable capitalisation (CAR of 20.68%), and improving asset quality (GS3 at 4.57%). The agency's outlook is Stable, supported by a healthy AUM of ₹2,81,309 crore as of September 2025 and the proposed 20% equity infusion (~₹39,618 crore) by MUFG Bank.
This is a positive development for shareholders as the upgrade to the highest AAA rating lowers borrowing costs and boosts investor confidence. The rating action, combined with the MUFG investment, strengthens SFL's funding profile, capital position, and long-term growth capacity, which should support stock sentiment.
