SBI reported its highest ever annual net profit of Rs 80,032 crores for FY26, up 12.88% year-on-year, driven by higher Net Interest Income and Non-Interest Income. Total Business crossed Rs 109 Trillion with advances growing 16.87% to Rs 49.3 lakh crore and deposits at Rs 59.8 lakh crore. However, Net Interest Margin compressed to 2.91% (down 17 bps) reflecting the challenging interest rate environment. Asset quality improved significantly with GNPA at a two-decadal low of 1.49% and Net NPA at 0.39%, while the bank maintains strong provisions with additional buffers of Rs 29,713 crores not included in PCR. Capital adequacy strengthened to 15.40% with ROE at 18.57%.
Strong profitability and asset quality improvements are positive signals, but the NIM compression indicates margin pressure that investors should monitor. The well-provisioned balance sheet and robust capital position provide a safety buffer.
