SBI reported FY25 net profit of ₹70,901 crores, up 16.08% year-on-year, while operating profit crossed ₹1 lakh crore for the first time, growing 17.89% YoY to ₹1,10,579 crores. Q4FY25 net profit stood at ₹18,643 crores, a 9.93% drop from Q4FY24 (₹20,698 crores), mainly due to a 20.35% jump in loan loss provisions. Loan advances grew 12.03% YoY to over ₹42 lakh crores, and deposits rose 9.48% YoY. Asset quality improved meaningfully, with gross NPAs falling to 1.82% (from 2.24%) and net NPAs to 0.47%. However, domestic net interest margin (NIM) compressed to 3.22% for FY25 (from 3.43%) and to 3.15% in Q4 (from 3.47%), reflecting margin pressure. Capital adequacy remained healthy at 14.25%.
Strong full-year earnings, record operating profit, and continued improvement in asset quality are positives for shareholders. However, the year-on-year dip in Q4 profit, rising provisions, and ongoing NIM compression signal margin headwinds that may cap near-term stock upside.
